Choose vinyl if
- You are done repainting a fence every three years
- You want a white or tan line that still looks new in a decade
- Your last fence rotted on wet ground or near salt water
- You want pickets out front and privacy panels in back

Low-maintenance material
Clean privacy lines without a paint cycle.
Extruded PVC that holds its color without paint or stain, built as picket, privacy, or rail panels on posts set in concrete. Wall thickness, bottom-rail reinforcement, and post depth are what carry a vinyl fence through twenty New England winters.

The material read
PVC ignores rot, insects, and salt spray, so wet ground and coastal exposure take nothing off its life. Cold is the real test. In deep cold the material stiffens, and a plow blade or snowblower chute can crack a panel that would only dent in July. Frost heave is answered by depth: posts go four feet down in concrete.
Vinyl needs no painting and offers twenty to thirty years of service. More fragile in deep cold than wood or composite.

Styles and options
Compare each option by its look, purpose, and upkeep.
Vinyl Picket FencesA 3 to 4 foot open fence that keeps its white without paint. Best for front yards, gardens, and small dogs. Easier to crack in January than wood or composite.
Vinyl Privacy FencesFull screening, 6 feet tall, no staining ever. Our highest-volume fence with 41 archive installs. It wants deeper footings on windy lots.
Vinyl Rail FencesOpen 2 to 4 rail fencing that marks a line without blocking a view. Maintenance-free for decades and easy to back with wire mesh when a dog needs containing.Estimated cost
$11–$70

FAQ
Use $11 to $70 per installed linear foot as a planning estimate. Rail count, panel height and site conditions affect the quote. Request a written quote for your fence and site.
Twenty to thirty years is realistic here. The ten-year figures you see quoted reflect thin-wall panels and shallow posts. What actually ends a vinyl fence in New England is impact damage in cold weather, not weathering, so lifespan depends more on where the fence sits than on the material.
It can, but only from impact. PVC stiffens as temperatures drop, so a strike that would leave a scuff in summer can split a rail in January. Nothing cracks from temperature alone. We keep fence lines clear of plow paths wherever the layout allows.
Composite and vinyl differ in appearance, impact resistance and framing. Compare quotes for the same fence height, layout and gates, and inspect the proposed boards or panels. Their installed price ranges overlap.
